Race schedule has been expanced to include challenges for the entire family over the weekend of June 10 and 11 at Ellis-Porter Park in Jefferson City. Introducing the inaugural Great Escape Kids and Youth Triathlons. These events take place Saturday, June 10. Race start is 7 p.m. This family event kicks off a weekend of races with The Great Escape sprint, sprint relay, super sprint and duathlon taking place at the park Sunday morning, June 11.
Kid’s and Youth Triathlon Race – June 10 @ 7 p.m.
Courses for the Great Escape Kid’s Triathlon are not yet final, but most of each race will be within the park. The swim portion will be in the 50-meter Ellis-Porter pool. Distances for the kid’s triathlon for ages 5-8 will be approximately: swim 25 meter; bike 1.50-1.75 miles; run .50 mile. Distances for the youth triathlon for ages 9-12 will be approximately: swim 100 meter; bike 3-3.25 miles; run 1.25-1.50 miles. Race start is 7 p.m., June 10.
Adult Triathlon Race – June 11 @ 7 a.m.
The 7th annual Great Escape Triathlon takes place on Sunday, June 11, 2023, with a 7 a.m. race start. This is a well-organized, but relaxed, event for first time triathletes ages 13 and up and takes athletes past the Algoa State Penitentiary on the bike course and the historic Missouri State Penitentiary on the run course . Events include the classic 400-meter pool swim, 12-mile bike and 3.2mile Sprint Triathlon. Don’t like the water? We also have a Duathlon for bikers and runners or team up to do our 2 or 3-person Team Relay. For those wanting a mini version of the sprint, we have the Super Sprint consisting of a 200-meter pool swim, 5.3-mile bike and 1.8-mile run.
