“A City Within a City: Missouri State Penitentiary Exhibit, 1836-2004”

This exhibit will be in the Capitol Rotunda as part of the Missouri State Museum. It includes artifacts, images and oral histories chronicling the long history of the Missouri State Penitentiary from 1836-2004. It features the Schrieber collection of artifacts being donated to the Missouri State Museum. “The Light in the Other Room” Art Exhibit

The Elizabeth Rozier Gallery, located inside Union Hotel at 101 Jefferson Street, will host “The Light in the Other Room” Art Exhibit, a collaboration of Kansas City based African American artists. “The Light in the Other Room” presents the paintings of African descendants. This exhibit hones in on the importance of understanding that culture and civilization had its beginnings on the continent of Africa and that art is an inextricable part of all great civilizations. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and admission is free. Women’s Film Series- “Introducing Dorothy Dandridge”

The Missouri River Regional Library invites you to join them for a Saturday afternoon out. Come enjoy a free film about women, followed by a discussion. Light refreshments will be served. “Introducing Dorothy Dandridge,” starting at 2 p.m. on the second floor of the library, will show on Saturday, January 12. An acclaimed stage performer, Dorothy struggled with the challenge of her color in Hollywood. She beat out many more famous rivals for the role of “Carmen Jones,” and became the first black woman ever nominated for a Best Actress Academy Award. Missouri Courthouses: Building Memories on the Square

On January 18 at 7 p.m. at the Missouri Archives, Dennis Weiser will discuss his new book, a pictorial review of Missouri's 114 county courthouses. Over three hundred images richly illustrate portraits of existing exteriors, architectural features and unique interior elements of design, as well as pictures of courthouses long ago removed from the landscape.
